Forsaken Love: Ghostly Memories A Kikyou Shrine

Kikyou wandered around with Kaede many times, going village to village to rid of youkai for the people there before she had recived the Shikon no Tama. One day, she had worked with a fellow priestess, Tsubaki [yes the same one who was cursed with the snake by Kikyou when she tried to take the jewel from her]. Tsubaki cursed Kikyou with a curse when Kikyou went to leave the village after an exorcism they performed together.

Tsubaki: A miko shows her true power when she throws away her feelings. But as a woman, you will probably fall in love.
Kikyou: Me? Fall in love?
Tsubaki: Do not forget. Do not fall in love. Do not be loved by a man. If you ever meet such a man, you will die an unnatural death.
Kikyou: I'll keep that mind.

Right here, Kikyou was cursed by Tsubaki that if she ever fell in love, she would die a tragic death. Kikyou ignored the curse, believing she would never find love.

During the night of the full moon, Kikyou was attacked by a demon who wished to slay her and take the Shikon no Tama [Jewel of Four Souls]. InuYasha at this time was looking for a place to hide because the sun was setting. Suddenly, the smell of youkai [demon] blood caught his nose and the burst of light. Running into the woods, he hid in a tree and turned to see a woman in the area. InuYasha then turned human at this time. Kikyou sensed InuYasha's aura and turned to him.

Kikyou: Are you after the Shikon no Tama as well?
InuYasha: Shikon no Tama? What is that?
Kikyou: All is well, if you do not know. But if you do not wish to be killed, never come near me again.

At this time, InuYasha did not know what the jewel was. Exhausted after the battle with the youkai and from the pouring rain, Kikyou fainted and fell into the cold mud. InuYasha ran to her and kneeled by her side. Her face was streaked with dirt and then, suddenly, a burst of lightning filled the area as the rain washed away the dirt from Kikyou's face. InuYasha stared at her, confused and slightly in awe. He then ran away when he heard the local villagers yelling her name and coming towards the fallen woman.

Later, InuYasha found out was the jewel was. He was tired of being called hanyou [half-demon] and sought out Kikyou.

InuYasha: Hey Kikyou! I hear that the Shikon no Tama is an orb that has the ability to increase one's youkai power.
Kikyou [thoughts]: That voice...I have heard it before.

Kikyou had met InuYasha when InuYasha was a ningen [human]. InuYasha now approached Kikyou as a hanyou [half-demon].

Kikyou: I see. You are the one who was running and hiding the other night.
InuYasha: Shut up! Just give me the Shikon no Tama!

InuYasha then moved to attack Kikyou only to be pinned to the tree by three arrows by his haori [shirt].

Kikyou: I see. I thought you were a youkai. You're a hanyou, aren't you? If you get the Shikon no Tama, you will be able to become a full youkai. Do you want your place in the world that badly, hanyou? Do you honestly believe that is true strength?

Enraged because of the truth, InuYasha declared he would become a great demon by wishing upon the Jewel and she would be the first of his prey. Kikyou threw InuYasha's threat carelessly, saying he would never be able to take the jewel or kill her. InuYasha then told Kikyou she smelt of youkai blood, making the miko [priestess] obviously upset hearing she smelt bad. InuYasha taunted Kikyou until she threatened him to stay away from her unless he wanted to be killed.

InuYasha begins to follow Kikyou, harassing her for the jewel. Their next meeting happens rather differently that significantly changes their relationship. Kikyou had been with her sister, Kaede, until InuYasha appeared.

Kikyou: You again.
InuYasha: Heh! Kikyou, give me the Shikon no Tama.
Kikyou: You've appeared again.
InuYasha: I told you I wouldn't give up! I'm going to end all of this today! Hurry up and let that runt go.
Kikyou: Kaede, step aside for a moment.
InuYasha [thoughts]: The miko that walks along a blood tainted path.
Kikyou [thoughts]: An existence that is neither human nor youkai. A poor hanyou looking for his place in the world.

The two then ready to battle until Kikyou says;

Kikyou: There's something I want to ask you. Why didn't you kill me that night? You should have been able to kill me easily.
InuYasha: I can't do something under-handed like that.
Kikyou: I see.
InuYasha: Whats so funny?!
Kikyou: Let me ask you one last thing. What is your name, hanyou? You atleast have a name, don't you? Even thought you're a hanyou.
InuYasha: Stop saying 'hanyou, hanyou' over and over!
Kikyou: Then tell me your name and I will never call you hanyou again.
InuYasha: Its InuYasha.
Kikyou: InuYasha...I shall remember that.
InuYasha: Say your prayers, Kikyou!

Kikyou ends up pinning InuYasha to a tree [again]. Just as InuYasha thinks Kikyou will kill him, she turns to leave with Kaede. InuYasha screams and demands why she won't finish him off. Kaede wonders the same thing. Kikyou responds that she doesn't want to waste any more arrows on him.

After that time, Kikyou began to bathe to wash away the scent in a way to please InuYasha. Later, Kaede is attacked by a demon intent on kidnapping her to use her to get the jewel from Kikyou. InuYasha saves her and lets her go back to Kikyou. Kikyou hears of this and thanks InuYasha. The two sit down in a field together and talk. Kikyou turns to InuYasha and says;

Kikyou: This is the first time I've talked to you up close.
InuYasha: So what?
Kikyou: I heard that you saved Kaede.
InuYasha: Keh! That was-
Kikyou: I wanted to thank you as well.
InuYasha: Don't do something when its so unlike you.
Kikyou: InuYasha...what do I look like to you? Do I look like a human?
InuYasha: What? What the hell are you talking about?
Kikyou: I show my weaknesses to no one. I cannot hesitate. Because otherwise, I will be attacked by youkai. Even though I am human, I cannot act like a human. You and I are alike...You're a hanyou. That's why I couldn't kill you.

InuYasha tells Kikyou that she isn't acting like herself and turns to walk away. Kikyou then smiles sadly and agrees and gets up to walk away. InuYasha feels guilty then tells her to meet him tomorrow so that he can give her a gift. Kikyou tells him she has a gift for him as well [this is a funny scene when InuYasha assumes its the Shikon no Tama ^^].

That night, Kikyou made prayer beads such as the ones Kagome uses to 'sit' InuYasha. But instead of the word 'sit' Kikyou would like to use the word 'beloved'. Kaede tried to remind Kikyou of the curse if she fell in love.

Kaede [thoughts] At that moment, I could not help but notice sister looked some what happy.
Kikyou: Now that I think about it, that miko named Tsubaki placed a weird spell on me. Its unlikely that a miko such as myself who travels a path of carnage would fear an unnatural death.

Here in this one statement, Kikyou declared that she did not care if she was not supposed to love InuYasha and would die. She loved him and did not fear the out come. The next day, the two met to give eachother gifts. InuYasha gave Kikyou a tiny, expensive gift of red lipstick. It was the only thing other then his haori he had left after his mother died. Staring at the gift, Kikyou felt guilty and smiled saying she forgot her gift.

From then on, InuYasha and Kikyou were always together. They protected and loved each other. They even went to distant lands to exterminate youkai together.

Kaede noticed a huge difference in her sister. Kikyou smiled more and was even caught wearing the red lipstick InuYasha had given her. Kikyou did not notice but her powers began to weaken due to Tsubaki's curse. The village was attacked and Kikyou's powers were so weak, Kaede was injured to the point she lost her eye. Kikyou was horrorified and her guilt began to depress her. InuYasha tried to comfort Kikyou but Kikyou knew she was tired of fighting.

Kikyou then turned to InuYasha and asked him if he was tired of fighting. He asked her what she meant. She then told him how he could wish on the Shikon no Tama to become a human and could stop fighting. InuYasha asked what would happen to her. Kikyou said she would get to stop fighting too and could become a normal person.

The two went on a boat ride to clear their thoughts. Stopping at the docks, InuYasha got out before Kikyou. Kikyou followed him quietly but tripped on her hakama [pants]. InuYasha caught her in his arms and they stared into eachother's eyes. InuYasha hugged Kikyou, whispering her name.

InuYasha: Kikyou! Kikyou, I will become a human. Its not a whim or anything. I will become human.
Kikyou: InuYasha...
InuYasha: So... you will also become a woman. My...
Kikyou: Its alright. Don't say anything more.
InuYasha: Kikyou...I..

Kikyou then placed her lips onto InuYasha's, kissing him. He returned the passionate embrace. A little later at dark, InuYasha and Kikyou walked hand in hand to her village. Kikyou turned to him and asked,

Kikyou: InuYasha are you alright with it?
InuYasha: With what?
Kikyou: Being with some one like me...Are you sure about this?
InuYasha: Stop saying something so obvious.
Kikyou: Tomorrow afternoon...in front of the Goshinbuko in the western forest, please be waiting there for me. I'll bring you the Shikon no Tama.
InuYasha: Okay, got it.

Kikyou and InuYasha then seperated, never knowing of the third person of their love watching them closely with hatred.
